Install & First-time Setup
Download Ledger Live for desktop from ledger.com/ledger-live and choose the correct build for your operating system. Run the installer and follow the guided setup. On first run you will be asked to create a new wallet or restore from an existing recovery phrase. If creating a new wallet, the device will generate a recovery phrase — write this down on a durable medium and store it offline. Set a secure PIN and do not share your recovery phrase with anyone.
Security Model & Best Practices
Ledger Live is a host application that interfaces with your Ledger hardware. The private keys and seed never leave the secure element inside the device. All sensitive operations require explicit confirmation on the device screen, providing a trustworthy verification step against compromised hosts or malicious software. Always update Ledger Live from the official site, verify checksums where available, and prefer official app sources to avoid tampered installers. Use a strong PIN and consider a passphrase for hidden wallets if you need an additional layer of privacy.
Secure Signing
Transactions are constructed on the host but signed only after you confirm them on the device.
App Catalog
Install blockchain-specific apps on your Ledger device directly from Ledger Live.
Portfolio & Analytics
View balances, transaction history, and market performance in a consolidated dashboard.
Troubleshooting & Tips
If Ledger Live does not detect your device: try a different USB cable (use data-capable cables), switch USB ports, avoid USB hubs, restart the app, and ensure OS permissions are granted. For Bluetooth pairing with Nano X, check Bluetooth settings and re-pair via Ledger Live Mobile. If firmware updates fail, follow Ledger Live’s on-screen recovery guidance and contact official support if needed.
Privacy & Network Options
Ledger Live gives you control over which external services it uses for price feeds and blockchain explorers. If you prefer maximum privacy, use your own node for broadcasting transactions and limit telemetry in the app settings.
No — signing transactions requires a Ledger device. You can explore the UI without a device but full functionality needs hardware.
Restore your wallet on a new Ledger using your recovery phrase. If you don't have the phrase, funds are irretrievable.
